Crash Survivor Living With Brain Injury
Last year, four students from the University of Georgia tragically lost their lives. A survivor has been working through her injuries, including broken bones and a brain injury. Originally in a coma, the young woman is fighting back and making progress.
Last April, a woman and her friends drove to the Iron Horse sculpture to take some photos. On the way back to campus, the car the women were in collided with another head-on. The accident occurred on Highway 15 in Oconee County. The lone survivor in the car was the driver. She was severely injured. The driver of the other vehicle was not hurt.
Since the accident, the woman has had at least six surgeries. She undergoes therapies to bring back her speech and movement. She says that the memory of her friends is part of what motivates her to get better. She is working hard to get out of the wheelchair she has been in since the wreck.
The young woman has dreams of returning to school and earning her degree in physical therapy. For now, she is relying on her faith and her family as she works to regain what she has lost.
