Driver Pleads Guilty in Locust Grove Accident

An accident on Interstate 75 in August 2016 took the life of a Locust Grove high school student. The driver responsible for that accident pleaded guilty in Henry County State Court.

According to court documents, the driver found to be at-fault for the August 20 crash pleaded guilty to following too closely and homicide by vehicle in the second degree. The man struck the teenager’s SUV from behind, close to Exit 218, and set off a chain-reaction crash. Five other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The driver of the vehicle that caused the collision was sentenced to two years’ probation, 60 days to serve in jail, and time served since his arrest. He was also ordered to pay fines and court costs. Conditions of the man’s probation include not operating a vehicle within the state, the completion of 80 hours of community service and attendance in a victim impact panel.

Following the teen’s death, her family established the Always Summertime Foundation. Its goal is to provide scholarships to students in Locust Grove and provide charitable donations. The foundation has already given donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and provided support to a family of a teenager killed in a truck accident.

The teenager killed in the accident is remembered as an “original” who had much love to give everyone she met.
