Florida State Coach Arrested for DUI

Vic Viloria, a strength and conditioning coach with Florida State University, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence in late August.

According to reports released by Tallahassee Police, Viloria was discovered to be passed out at a traffic light. Viloria was sitting in the driver’s seat of his truck. Police were able to wake the coach, who claimed that he had consumed several alcoholic drinks at work. He also admitted to having had three “big” drinks in his office on campus.

Viloria was asked to take a blood alcohol content test and complied. His levels registered at .124 and .125. The legal limit for alcohol in Tallahassee, like the majority of the country, is .08. Viloria was arrested and transported to Leon County Jail, where he was released the next morning.

Florida State University released a statement: “We are aware of the reported incident and are in the process of gathering more information. The issue falls under the human resources policies for university employees, which restricts further comment at this time.”

The handbook given to FSU employees states that such a violation could result in a letter of reprimand, termination, or a variety of consequences in between. It is also possible that the university will require Viloria to attend a rehabilitation program.

Aside from being charged with DUI, Viloria was also charged with property damage because he hit a traffic sign.
