GA Drivers Reminded that Seat Belts Save Lives

It is said that every hour in the United States, someone dies simply because they chose not to buckle their seat belt. That is why, in part, this holiday season, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) and the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) are reminding all drivers to buckle up. If you don’t, you stand the chance of getting handed a citation by a law enforcement officer.

Motorists can plan on seeing an increased presence by police out on the state’s roadways this holiday season. While Thanksgiving has proven to be the most dangerous holiday when it comes to traffic fatalities, the entire holiday season is a risky one for drivers.

In 2014, Thanksgiving weekend saw 19 traffic fatalities across the state. In 2013, roadway fatalities among those not wearing seat belts numbered 376.

It is frustrating to police officers that such a simply way to save lives is being ignored. It’s not just in Georgia. Across the country, people are losing their lives because they refuse or forget to click their seat belts in place. Law enforcement officials are warning drivers to slow down, buckle up and stay sober.
