Man Tries to Beat Breathalyzer with Toilet Paper

Man tries to beat breathalyzer with toilet paper. That is a catchy headline that might be comical if it weren’t true. It is exactly what Ross McDonald, 39, did to try to avoid DUI charges.

According to Iowa City Police, the man was driving the wrong way down a one-way street in costume. After his arrest, he was taken to the police station for processing and decided to eat toilet paper. When asked why, the man told police he thought it would help him pass the breathalyzer.

The toilet paper didn’t work, and McDonald registered a .165 on the machine, twice the legal limit for the state of Iowa.

There are many myths when it comes to beating a breathalyzer test. Put a penny in your mouth. Swallow mouth wash. Hold your breath. None of these things will affect the outcome of your test. That doesn’t mean that you cannot beat a breathalyzer result. It just means that you have to do it in court with the help of an experienced attorney.

If you have been arrested for a DUI, even if you have taken a field sobriety test or a breathalyzer test, we can put our extensive knowledge to work for you. Do not fight your charges in court on your own. Our DUI attorneys are here for you and ready to get to work. Contact Hawkins Spizman Fortas today for a free case evaluation or take time to look through our website for more information about our firm and how we can help you.
