Motorcycle Rider Victim of Atlanta’s Problem Roadways

Strange things have been happening to the roadways in Atlanta lately. The most recent victim is a motorcyclist that was thrown into the air when a part of Interstate 20 buckled upwards, sending the man into the air and his motorcycle down the road.

According to reports, the accident occurred on April 17 and, as a result, the westbound section of highway was closed. Initially, officials said that an underground gas leak had caused the road to buckle. After further investigation, fire officials said that there were crews in the area pumping concrete into abandoned gas lines. The lines were under the freeway and, as a result of some type of malfunction, there was an air pressure issue. As a result of the build-up of air pressure, pieces of the highway were pushed up, causing the buckling and, ultimately, the accident.

The fire department said that the driver of the motorcycle hit a large bump, which sent him off of his bike and skyward. The rider landed about 10 to 15 feet down the road. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. A car also launched off the buckled roadway, but the driver did not suffer any serious injuries.

While this is certainly one accident that could not have been prevented by the motorcyclist, officials are urging everyone to be mindful of motorcycle safety as the weather take a steady turn for the better. When a motorcycle rider is injured in an accident through no fault of their own, they may be legally entitled to compensation for their medical bills, lost wages and more.
