Superintendent Arrested for Second DUI This Year

Right or wrong, we tend to hold public officials to a higher standard. That is why, in part, it is disappointing to the community of El Dorado County that their superintendent has been arrested for his second DUI.

According to police reports from the California Highway Patrol, Jeremy Meyers, the El Dorado County Office of Education Superintendent, was arrested last Thursday for his second DUI. Not only was it his second alleged offense, but it his second in only five months.

Meyers was being followed by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy who witnessed him crash his vehicle into a tree near Mortara Circle just before 3 p.m. Meyers’ car suffered damage, and the man was taken to Marshall Hospital. The arresting officer reported that Meyer failed a field sobriety test on scene and then again at the hospital.

Meyers registered a .18 and a .19 on subsequent breathalyzer tests. The superintendent was booked at the Eldorado County Jail on suspicion of DUI. Meyers pled no contest in August to his original DUI charge.

If convicted, Meyers could lose his ability to participate in the education profession.
