Teen Skateboarder Struck by Drunk Driver

Recently, a teenage boy was struck by a drunk driver while riding his skateboard. The teen is expected to undergo more surgeries to repair his body, and the suspected driver has been taken into custody.

According to reports, a 16-year-old boy was riding on his skateboard down Taylor Road on July 12. His ride in Johns Creek was uneventful until he was struck by a Ford F150 driven by Christopher Caldwell. When police arrived on the scene, Caldwell admitted to consuming a single beer approximately four hours before the accident. Caldwell admitted later that he had two beers before striking the boy.

Caldwell was arrested and subsequently given a breathalyzer test. His blood alcohol content was measured at .103. The legal limit for blood alcohol content in Georgia is .08. Caldwell was charged with both driving under the influence and serious injury by vehicle.

The teenager who was struck sustained a broken right ankle, a deep laceration over his right eye and swelling on the brain. He was initially listed in critical condition. As of this writing, the teenager has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home but will, as said above, need more surgeries to repair his ankle.
