UPS Worker Killed on Dock

UPS drivers are easily recognized by their brown uniforms and trucks. They drive through our neighborhoods every day, dropping off packages that people are eagerly anticipating. While many of us think of UPS as made up entirely of these people we routinely see, there are actually thousands that work behind the scenes, making the company run.

It was one of these long-time workers that lost his life last week in a terrible accident. According to reports, the 48-year-old man stepped off of a dock outside of the UPS center on Pleasantdale Road in DeKalb County. As the man stepped down, an 18-wheeler was backing up, unable to see him. The man was struck by the trailer as the truck continued to travel in reverse.

The man was taken to a local hospital and listed in critical condition. It was a short time later that he passed away. The driver of the tractor trailer did not see the man, nor did he feel any type of impact. He was not aware that he struck the man until the incident was over. Police did not indicate that any charges would be filed in the incident that appears to have been an accident.
