An officer with the Atlanta Police was injured on February 21 when his cruiser struck a power pole. The car then traveled down a wooded embankment before coming to a rest. According to details of the accident, the officer was driving along Joseph E. Boone, responding to a call of a stolen vehicle. The cruiser lost traction on a curve near Westchester Boulevard. A grand jury in Henry County has returned indictments against the parents of a 5-month-old infant. The child passed away in September 2017 as the result of a serious brain injury. According to police reports, the child was left in the care of his father while his mother attended a local job fair. Spit Test May Indicate Concussion Recovery

Researchers have discovered that a bit of spit could indicate whether or not a child's concussion symptoms will persist for only days or weeks. The test measures genetic material in the saliva and was close to 90 percent accurate in determining whether or not a concussion would subside quickly. At 90 percent, the new test beats what doctors have commonly used, which is only 70 percent accurate. Currently, doctors utilize a concussion survey. The new test is currently in its experimental states, but if it proves to be reliable, it could give pediatricians a new way to assess concussions in children. According...

According to reports, the man has been charged with malice murder, cruelty to children in the first degree, and second degree murder. Reports indicate that the man had turned himself in on charges of domestic violence. Dragon Con was held in Atlanta in the beginning of September. Two women sustained head injuries as a result of chairs being thrown from a hotel balcony. The chairs were thrown off of the 10th floor of the Marriott Marquis just after 1:30 a.m. According to reports, the women were on the street below when someone threw chairs from the terrace area of the 10th floor. A two-month old infant suffered skull fractures and torn ligaments on July 4. Her father stands accused of causing the injuries and has pleaded not guilty. The man has been charged with one count of aggravated battery and one count of first-degree child cruelty. UFC Fighter to Be Transferred to TBI Center

Popular UFC fighter Matt Hughes was involved in a recent vehicle accident. His vehicle was struck by a train and the fighter suffered head trauma. Hughes is currently listed in stable condition at a hospital in Springfield, Illinois. A nonprofit organization has volunteered to have Hughes transported to a traumatic brain injury center in Atlanta. The Triumph Over Tragedy Foundation has contacted the fighter's family with their offer. They would like to transport Hughes to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Georgia Tech Student Suffers Brain Injury

A young man was struck while riding his bicycle on the campus of Georgia Tech on June 26. The student was hit by a truck that failed to yield. The driver was cited in the accident. The man struck sustained a traumatic brain injury. The young man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. Doctors performed an emergency surgical procedure and placed him in a medically induced coma. The procedure was undertaken in order to relieve pressure on the man's brain.
