3D Driver Safety Enters Beta Trial

Vairdo Inc., a company that has worked with Google X and Georgia Tech, announced the release of Sleepy Eyse. The multi-featured camera will be released to beta testers in an effort to combat drunk and dangerous driving.

The first version of Sleepy Eyse is being released in its beta version, with four versions to follow via crowdfunding. The $99 set of eyewear is said to be the latest in cutting-edge technology designed with driver safety in mind.

Jayant Ratti, an engineer at Varido Inc., said, “Driver safety is one of the most aggravating problems that is taking lives by the millions each year in road accidents. Even if we can cut that down gradually by 10 percent each year to start with, it’s worth investing in. I have lost close friends in car accidents, so this technology comes from the heart and needs to be in all cars.”

The camera has two sensors that keep an “eye” on drivers. The face of the driver is monitored, as well as the driving habits, and those in the car are alerted if driving becomes dangerous. Mounted on the dashboard and used in conjunction with the company’s app, the camera will signal the smartphone to signal to the driver, via a flashing light and alarm, if their driving becomes risky. While it may not be a foolproof method of keeping everyone safe behind the wheel, it is definitely a step in the right direction.
