Woman Faces 17th DUI Charge

It stands to reason that most people think that when a person is pulled over and charged with driving under the influence that they learn from their mistake. If that is what you believe, you may be mistaken. While some people do indeed learn from their first encounter with a DUI charge, many do not. This is the case with a Tennessee woman.

A Shelbyville woman was recently charged with her 17th driving under the influence offense. According to a WSMV-TV report, Dorothy Hanson earned her first DUI way back in 1985. Decades later, she has racked up her 17th charge for the offense. Six of her latest DUIs have taken place over the last 10 years.

Hanson was arrested for driving under the influence last week after she hit another car head-on. Reports detail that Hanson had open whiskey and beer containers in her vehicle. She was so dehydrated at the time of the accident that paramedics on scene were unable to get a blood sample. Not only was Hanson arrested for DUI, but she was also charged with her 16th driving on a revoked license offense. She was forced to post a $75,000 bond before being released from jail.

It was not immediately clear whether or not Hanson had secured legal representation. A family member called her a good person with an alcohol problem.
