Brain Injury Survivor Crowned at Prom
Hundreds of thousands of seniors will graduate from high school this season, but perhaps none have some so far as one young lady in Georgia. After surviving an accident, medical professionals at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta have called her tough and determined.
It was in September 2016 that the teenager was in an accident that destroyed her car. She was at an intersection and suddenly pulled forward. She was struck by a bucket truck on her driver’s side. Responders originally thought that the teen was dead on the scene, until she took a breath. That’s when her story took a turn.
The teenager spend a month in intensive care and then two months at the children’s hospital. She suffered multiple broken bones and a traumatic brain injury. Family members weren’t sure if the teen would recover. It was on Christmas Eve that the girl was given a white board and motioned for a marker. She wrote a complete sentence.
The teenager has made strides since then. She made it her goal to walk into her own prom, and that’s just what she did. Less than a year after her accident, the teenager not only walked into her prom on the arm of her boyfriend, but was crowned prom princess by her classmates.
