Clayton Elementary Principal Arrested for DUI | Hawkins Spizman

Clayton Elementary School principal, John Hultquist, was arrested for driving under the influence last Friday and is now on a voluntary paid leave of absence.

According to reports, officials at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center booked Hultquist at 9:41 p.m. He was charged with weaving over the roadway, driving under the influence, and a misdemeanor charge of attempting to elude police. The principal was released on a $3,000 bond the next day.

Barbara Jacoby, a spokesperson for Cherokee County School District, said that Hultquist is currently on a voluntary paid leave of absence. According to Jacoby, Hultquist “immediately complied with School Board Policy” when he reported his arrest. Leticia Cline, a former principal, is now serving as interim principal.

A letter was sent home to parents that said, in part, “She is a longtime educator who lives in the Clayton Community and cares deeply about the community and its children.” The letter reassured parents that Hultquists’s arrest did not take place on school grounds, nor did it involve his duties or the students.
