Mom Asks to Be Released from Jail During Hot Car Death Case

A mother was sent to jail, accused of leaving her 1-year-old toddler in the car while she had her hair done. The child died as a result of heat-related illness. The 25-year-old woman will soon ask to be released from custody.

According to reports, the woman has a bond hearing scheduled for September. Her case will be heard in DeKalb County Superior Court. She is charged with both child neglect and second-degree murder. She claims that she left the air conditioning running, but discovered that the car’s battery had died at some point during her six-hour appointment.

Law enforcement officials say that the woman gave different accounts of what occurred. She then confessed what had happened to the father of the child, an Air Force reservist. Prior cases of a similar nature indicate that the woman may be granted bond. Three separate cases involving the deaths of toddlers left in hot cars involved bond being granted to those arrested.

Even though the temperatures are cooling slightly, law enforcement officials warn that hot car deaths are still a possibility. If you are traveling with your child, do not leave them in the car, no matter what you have to do. If there is business you have to take care of that your child may interfere with or makes it inconvenient for you to take your little one with you, find a babysitter or reschedule your appointment.

If your child has been left in a hot car by someone and died as a result, you may have a case for wrongful death. Reach out to our experienced team of personal injury attorneys in DeKalb County for assistance.
