Breastfeeding Mother Charged with DUI
A mother in Roswell, Melissa Rae Tomesh, was arrested early Friday morning after officers discovered that she had passed out in her running car. The 35-year-old woman was located on Barrington Drive after a concerned citizen called the police to report the car.
As officers approached the vehicle, they noticed that it was indeed running. When they reached the driver’s side, they saw Tomesh behind the wheel and her 3-year-old child in her lap breastfeeding. Tomesh was passed out.
When officer woke Tomesh, it became apparent, they say, that she was under the influence of alcohol, drugs or both.
“When the officers arrived they had to wake up the driver,” Roswell police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Holland said. “And after talking to her, they realized she was under the influence of something, possibly drugs or a combination of different medications.”
Tomesh has been arrested twice in the past according to court records. She was arrested for leaving her infant in a hot car in 2014, and in 2015 she pled no contest to reckless conduct. This time, Tomesh has been charged with child endangerment and DUI. Her child was turned over to a family member. She was taken to the Roswell jail.
