Power Outage Caused by Alleged Drunk Driver

On August 12, about 250 homes receiving electricity through Georgia Power may have woken up in the dark. A car crashed into a pole near Eisenhower Parkway.

According to reports, Garret Head, 23, of Macon, was driving on Houston Avenue just before 12:30 a.m. He swerved to avoid a vehicle that had crossed the center line. As a result of having to maneuver his own vehicle to avoid a crash, Head struck a pole, splitting it.

Deputies say that there was no other vehicle when they arrived at the scene, only Head’s 2003 Ford F250. Whether or not Head was really trying to avoid a collision is unknown. What is fact is that Head refused medical treatment and was ultimately arrested, taken to Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and charged with driving under the influence.

The section of Houston Road between Cleveland Street and Hightower Road was closed until shortly after 8:00 a.m. as crews replaced the broken pole. Power was eventually restored to the area thanks to utility workers.

Head will appear in court to answer to his charges, but the date of his initial appearance was not reported.
